Week of 2/27 - 3/3

Supplemental Online Helpers
  • Parents, don't forget to log onto GreatMinds. Remember that Homework Helpers and Parent Tip Sheets are provided for each module that is covered in class and the lessons within them. This is a great aid to you as the parent when you sit with your child and help them with homework.
  • iReady is an online tool that works at your child's pace and level. It works towards slowly increasing skill development in both math and reading. I ask parents to have their child work on it daily if possible (especially those whom their child is struggling to meet academic standards) for a simple 20 minutes. 
  • IXL is another great reinforcement tool that can be used at home with your child. Both ELA and Math can be practiced on a weekly bases by your child.
  • Superkids Online Portal is available to students at home to practice their sound blending in order to read words and sentences. Both online games and books can be accessed for reinforcement.
Reminders
  • Tuesday, February 28th - Superkids contest will be held at 1:30pm for those students who wish to dress up as one of the Superkids characters. Parents are asked to please ask their child if they wish to dress up and be creative while coming up with ideas for their child's costume - Good Luck!
  • Wednesday, March 1st - Ash Wednesday, Mass will be held at 10:30 am. Parents are more than welcomed to join us.
  • Thursday, March 2nd - Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Children may dress up as a Dr. Seuss character. Contest will be held at 1:30 pm and parents are welcomed to join us.
  • Friday, March 3rd - Stations of the Cross at 10:30 am for those who want to join, you are welcomed to do so. Progress reports, MAP reports and iReady reports will be sent home. I will also be sending home for the weekend your child's username and password for iReady.
  • Diagnostic test for iReady will continue this week, Math was completed last week and Reading will be completed this week. Once they are completed a report will be generated for parents to see and homework will then be assigned in both Math and Reading. This will allow students to get practice and improve on weak areas.

Monday 2/27
- Tomorrow children may dress up as one of the Superkids. If your child is not dressing up as a Superkids they may dress up as a Hippie.
- Complete math worksheet lesson 5 (module 4).
- Write each sight word 3 times each in homework notebook.
- Review sight words for next assessment.

Tuesday 2/28
- Progress Test were sent home in the folders, please sign and return to me tomorrow. Thanks!
- Mass tomorrow is at 10:30 am, parents may join.
- Complete math worksheet lesson 6 (module 4).
- Phonics book pages 144, 145, 146.
- Review sight words for next assessment.

Wednesday 3/1
- Students may dress up tomorrow as any Dr. Seuss character, parents can join us at 1:30 if they wish for the best costume contest. Please do not send your child in play clothes unless a costume is worn. Thanks! 
- Complete math worksheet lesson 7 (module 4). Some students are showing progress with number bonds, please continue to practice and reinforce at home.
- Write a sentence for each sight word in homework notebook.
- Please make sure to return Progress Test 5 signed. -Thanks!

Thursday 3/2
- Complete math worksheet lesson 8 (module 4).
- Dress down tomorrow with $1 donation.
- Stations of the Cross tomorrow at 10:30 am parents are welcomed to join us.


Friday 3/3
- Complete math worksheet lesson 9 (module 4), after school teacher was instructed not to complete the worksheet. I want parents to work with their children on this homework.
Progress reports, MAP reports and iReady reports were sent home, please check your child's homework folder, sign them and return on Monday to me. - Thanks!

  1. Please make sure your child returns their decodable book, new ones will be sent out once they are returned.
  2. We are getting ready to use iReady in computer class. I will be giving students a diagnostic test in reading and math this week to get them up and running with iReady lessons. If you have any questions, please come see me.
  3. Wednesday, February 22nd - Black History Month Presentation will be held at 9am in the auditorium, parents are welcomed to come and join us.

Friday 2/24

- Complete math worksheet lesson 4 (module 4).
- I created a reinforcement worksheet for number bonds. As some students are struggling with the concept of number bonds, I urge parents to look over the sheet and sit with their child to complete the sheet. I have explained the components of the number bond on the sheet and made it simple enough for parents to grasp and be able to practice with their child.
(The after school teacher was instructed not to complete the sheet with your child because I want parents to get involved and see if and how their child is struggling with number bonds)- Thanks!

Tuesday 2/14
- Math worksheet for lesson 31.
- MAP Testing for ELA will be administered tomorrow. PLEASE make sure to arrive before 8am if you want your child to have breakfast. Breakfast will not be allowed after 8am due to the fact that testing starts at 8:30am sharp!

Wednesday 2/15
- Math worksheet for lesson 32 (end of module 3)
- Write a sentence for each sight word in homework notebook.
- ALL students must wear their uniforms tomorrow, no dress down clothes will be allowed, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Thursday 2/16
- Complete math worksheet for lesson 1 (we started Module 4 today)
- Review sight words, there are still some students that do not know their sight words and didn't receive a good grade for their assessment last week. I'm asking parents to please get more involved with your child's homework and studying.

***Reminder that school is CLOSED tomorrow for Religious Conference Day; and school will also be CLOSED on Monday for President's Day.

Week of 2/6 - 2/10

Reminders
  • Map testing will be administered this week from Tuesday, February 7th through Friday, February 10th.
  • If your child is still struggling with identifying sight words, you should be reviewing with them on a daily bases (please remember that they are memory words).
  • New blending worksheets will be sent out this week, I hope by now that parents have been able to log onto Superkids Online Portal and that their child has been able to practice and get familiar with the site. Also keep in mind that it s only accessible through a computer. It is not compatible with iPads/tablets or phones.

Tuesday 2/7

- MAP Test will be administrated tomorrow at 8:30am sharp. Please make sure to arrive as early as possible if you want your child to eat breakfast because no breakfast will be allowed after 8am since we need to prepare for the testing. Thanks!
