Week of 3/27 - 3/31

Supplemental Online Helpers
  • Parents, don't forget to log onto GreatMinds. Remember that Homework Helpers and Parent Tip Sheets are provided for each module that is covered in class and the lessons within them. This is a great aid to you as the parent when you sit with your child and help them with homework.
  • iReady is an online tool that works at your child's pace and level. It works towards slowly increasing skill development in both math and reading. I ask parents to have their child work on it daily if possible (especially those whom their child is struggling to meet academic standards) for a simple 20 minutes. 
  • IXL is another great reinforcement tool that can be used at home with your child. Both ELA and Math can be practiced on a weekly bases by your child.
  • Superkids Online Portal is available to students at home to practice their sound blending in order to read words and sentences. Both online games and books can be accessed for reinforcement.
Reminders
  • Friday, March 31st - Stations of The Cross at 10:30 am parents are welcomed to join us.
  • Thursday, April 6th - Parents are welcomed to join us at 9:00 am for the annual Spring Show (students will be allowed to wear dress down clothes but NO Jeans or Sneakers).
  • Friday, April 7th - Parent Teacher Conferences for Report Cards.
  • iReady usernames and passwords were sent home and students should have logged on over the weekend to complete homework assignments. Reminder that homework on iReady is checked and graded. iReady will greatly aid those students who need the help and push them to improve math skills.
  • Sight word assessments will be completed this week.
  • ELA and Math test have been pushed back once again.

Tuesday 3/28
- Complete math worksheets for lesson 24.
- Phonics book pages 157, 158, 159, 160.

- iReady will be given over the weekends from now on since many parents have brought it to my attention that their tablets are not compatible with the program. Since many do not have a computer to get to during the week, I ask that parents to take their children to their local library on weekends to get homework assignments done. Reminder iReady counts towards a grade. 

Wednesday 3/29
- Complete math worksheets for lesson 25.
- Write a sentence for each sight word in homework notebook.

Thursday 3/30
- Complete math worksheets for lesson 26.
- Review Blending worksheets.
- Students may dress down tomorrow, I ask that if you allow your child to wear play clothes please send them with $1 donation.


Friday 3/31
- iReady lessons will be posted later on tonight. Please check back by tomorrow morning for homework assignments.
- Starting Monday I will be collecting $5 for the kids pizza party before the Easter break.

-iReady homework: next lesson for math and next lesson for reading. If your child has an extra lessons, have them do one from there instead.

- Write a sentence for each sight word in hw nb.

Thursday 3/23
- Complete math worksheet for lesson 21 (module 4).
- Social studies (7 Continents) test were graded out of 4 pts. and sent home today, please sign and return tomorrow. Thanks!
- iReady lessons have been assigned:
          Please have your child complete the following lessons in math: One Less and Using A Number Line to Add and Subtract.

Friday 3/24
- iReady lessons have been assigned:
          Please have your child complete 2 lessons for math and 2 for reading.
As a reminder, iReady homework is checked and graded.

Reminders
  • Monday, March 13th - Dismissal is at 12 noon. After school is in session for those who need it.
  • Thursday, March 16th - In honor of St. Patrick's Day students may dress down and wear green, Stations of the Cross will be held at 10:30 and parents may join us.
  • Friday, March 17th - School is closed in observance of St. Patrick's Day.
  • iReady usernames and passwords were written on an index card and sent home on Friday students will have homework in both reading and math once a week. Schedule for homework will be posted on the blog under the day that it is given. Homework will be checked and given a grade. Some students will have extra lessons, if your child is one of them, they are to complete only the extra lessons for homework. Please keep a look out for those assignments. - Thanks!

- Color in the worksheet for the continent of North America and study the handout of the Seven Continents. (Students will have a test next week and must know all seven continents and how to spell their names).
- Tomorrow is GREEN DAY. Students may come in play clothes with a $1 donation but MUST wear something green. 

Thursday 3/16
- School is CLOSED tomorrow for St. Patrick's Day. 
- Complete math worksheet for lesson 17 (Module 4)
- Color handouts for South America and Europe. Make sure to review and study with your child as they will have a test on the 7 continents next week.
- Study all sight words, assessment will be given next week!
- Study number bonds and number sentence concept, test will be given next week!
- iReady homework will be posted up tomorrow afternoon. There will be 2 lessons for math and 2 lessons for reading. Please check back tomorrow for iReady homework assignment.

Friday 3/17
- Happy St. Patrick's Day!
- Please have your child log onto iReady and complete the next 2 lessons for Math and the next 2 lessons for Reading. If it shows any extra lessons for your child, then he/she should work on those instead.
- Test and assessments will be give this upcoming week, so make sure to study with your child:
  • the 7 continents
  • all sight words
  • number bonds and number sentences

Reminders
  • Monday, March 6th - As per Mr. Woods, progress reports along with MAP testing reports that were sent home on Friday must be signed and returned to me - Thanks!
  • Wednesday, March 8th - NYSESLAT Field Test will be administered to some students. 
  • Friday, March 10th - FULL uniforms MUST be worn. Stations of the Cross at 10:30 am for those who want to join, you are welcomed to do so.
  • Some students have yet to finish their diagnostic test for iReady, so our goal is to get that done this week. Once they are completed a report will be generated for parents to see and usernames along with passwords will be sent home. Homework will then be assigned in both Math and Reading (yes, iReady homework will count for a grade). This will allow students to get practice and improve on weak areas.

Wednesday 3/8
  • When students are late I ask parents to please walk to the office and get a Late Slip from Ms. Alba before entering the classroom. As a reminder breakfast is to be eaten before 8 am. If my door is closed I have begun with classes, please drop your child off at the door to avoid any distractions for the other students. -Thank you in advance!
  • Mrs. Seda has organized to collect money from all the classes for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during the season of Lent. Any money donated by parents and students will be greatly appreciated. Donations will go out to children who are fighting to be cured from leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma. I will have the donation box on my desk every morning and parents or students may drop in whatever amount they wish to donate. Thanks in advance for any donations made.
