REMINDERS
*Schedules have been changed and GYM days are once again Mondays and Thursdays — all students should be in full gym uniform.
*Monday, 2/25 — Dismissal is at 12:00 noon; African American History Projects due today.
*Wednesday, 2/27 African American History Month Presentations 8:30 - 10:00 AM.
*Thursday, 2/28 Progress Reports will be sent home, please check your child's homework folder.
*Friday 3/1 — Dismissal is at 12:00 noon; Dr. Seuss's Birthday, children may dress up, best dressed contest will be held at 10:00 AM in the lunchroom.
 
THIS WEEK IN CLASS . . .
Lessons: 2nd Grade continues to learn about adjectives and wraps up on Unit 2 Module A of the ReadyGen program; they continue with the second unit of the human body, and finally will discuss how to become a better person and disciple of Jesus as they prepare in the season of Lent for the coming of Easter and will take a day to focus on March's value of the month — Prudence.
 
Lessons: 3rd Grade continues to learn about the principal parts of irregular verbs and reads The Year of Miss Agnes; will discuss how to become a better person and disciple of Jesus as they prepare in the season of Lent for the coming of Easter and will take a day to focus on March's value of the month — Prudence.
 
Lessons: 4th Grade will learn about God's law and takes a day to focus on March's value of the month — Prudence.

REMINDERS

*Class schedules have changed — students will now be having lunch at 12:45 PM
*Due to later lunch, children may bring in a small snack (a fruit, granola bar, crackers) that will be eaten in class; reminder that snacks should not interrupt nor interfere with the class
*100th Day of School will be celebrated on Thursday, 2/21 — students may bring in money for the bake sale hosted by 7th and 8th grade students.
*Mass will be held on Friday, 2/22 @ 9:00 AM

Anti-Bullying Curriculum will be covered in all classes.
*Lessons: 2nd Grade learns about the demonstrative adjectives and shades of meaning with adjectives. They learn about the excretory system and the importance of vitamins and minerals. Finally, they explore the steps in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. 
*Lessons: 3rd Grade learns how to distinguish between regular and irregular verbs and parts of irregular verbs. They explore the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.

3rd Grade - African American Book Report

Book Report Cover
  • Create an interesting book cover for your Biography Book Report. This may be hand drawn or computer generated, provided it is your original work.
  • Include your name, the title of the book, and the author in an imaginative or creative way.
  • Include a creative illustration that shows something important about the book.
  • The source for all computer generated clip art must be appropriately cited.

Book Report Contents
Your report should follow the following format:

First paragraph (introduction) should include:
  • The title, author, and a brief description of why the subject of the book is important
Middle paragraphs should include:
  • Identify at least one, but no more than three, character trait(s) this person possessed and explain how it contributed to his/her success.
  • Explain how this person began in his/her field.
  • Were there any obstacles he/she had to overcome? Name any weaknesses, failures, or disappointments the person had.
  • Who were (if any) the important people in this person’s life. Did the person have a hero or role model who set an example?
  • Facts (details) about how this person contributed to his/her field or specialty.
  • What is the achievement(s) for which he/she is best known.
  • The part of this person’s life you admire the most, and why.
  • Something that surprised you the most about this person.
Concluding paragraph(s) should include:
  • A summary of the body of the report, including whether or not you think this book gives an honest account of your person.

2nd Grade - African American Project

What: You will be creating a tri-fold board about an important African American to the United States. This can be someone who is living or isn’t living. This person has made an important contribution to the country. This person is considered to be an innovator. You will also present your board to the class.

Who: The person whose name you chose and was written into the back of your social studies notebook.

Materials:
  • Tri-fold Board
  • Colored Pencils/markers
  • Research (typed or handwritten)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Decorations (glitter, stickers, etc)
On your board, the following information is required:
  • Person’s name
  • Person’s birthday
  • Person’s death date (if applicable)
  • Where your person was born
  • Where your person spent most of their life
  • Where your person went to college (if applicable) and degrees earned
  • What struggles your person endured/overcame
  • Why your person is famous
  • Any accomplishments your person achieved (honors/awards)
  • What their important contribution was
  • Why their contribution is important and how did it contribute to society
  • Any fun facts you have found about your person.
  • Any unfamiliar words, must be put onto a separate paper and pasted on the outside part of the board
Additional Information:
  • All information put onto the board must be in your own words.
  • You need to have at least 4 pictures on your board.
  • Neatness counts!
  • You may use up to 3 index cards with brief information for your in-class presentation.
